A baby Koala is called a Joey and is born blind and earless and climbs into its mother’s pouch straight after birth, where it lives there for around 6 months. Koalas are big eaters, consuming up to 1kg of eucalyptus leaves a day! Their name comes from the Aboriginal term meaning “no drink,” as they get nearly all their moisture from the leaves they eat and rarely drink water. These sleepy creatures can rest for up to 18 hours a day!
