The double happiness symbol, "囍" (pronounced shuāngxǐ, 双喜) in Chinese is comprised of 喜喜 – two copies of the Chinese character 喜 (pronounced xǐ), which means joy and happiness. It’s commonly used as a Chinese wedding symbol to represent double the joy and happiness for the newlyweds as they begin their marriage. According to Feng Shui, a fish represents wealth and prosperity because the actual word in Chinese for fish, in Pinyin: yú, 魚, also translates to “abundance” 裕 Pinyin: yù. Twin golden carp symbolizes wealth, and abundance, but love, domestic felicity, partnership, tenacity, hence fertility, hence renewal is symbolized.
A pair of fish is also one of the Eight Buddhist Symbols.

Lindsey McAlister, OBE, JP 

Lindsey was born in the UK, she has lived & created in Hong Kong for 36 years.
Currently Lindsey lives with her husband in a bright orange village house in Sai Kung.

As the founder of the ‘Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation’, she has been a pioneer in the arts in Hong Kong for the past 30 years, her work has focused primarily on the performing arts, writing, directing & producing. 

Lindsey explains “I’m a mixed media artist who works both digitally and on handmade collages. I blend multiple genres of visual art to produce exciting combinations of images, materials, and textures. I use motivational & inspirational quotes & text in my work to empower & inspire. Much of my work is strongly influenced by my time in Hong Kong, I consider myself a Hong Konger & plan on being here forever!”

She continues “The beauty of the arts is starting with a blank page (or stage) & filling it with ideas & creativity, by experimenting & exploring we create magical & emotive accidents.”

Lindsey had the honour of being recognised in 2006 as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her commitment & contribution to UK arts overseas.
