Xinjiang, China
The Puchang story began in 2008 when Mr. K.K. Cheung, an entrepreneur from Hong Kong, decided to dedicate his passion and effort in producing the best wines from Xinjiang, aiming to change the world’s perception on winemaking in China. Today, it is extremely rewarding to see Puchang wines obtaining awards at a number of international wine competitions whilst Xinjiang’s viticulture has gained much recognition by international wine experts.
Puchang’s 2016 Saperavi has a deep ruby, inky appearance typical of this Caucasian variety, with the rim only just beginning to hint at garnet. On the nose, expect ripe, even dried fruit notes from this especially hot area of Xinjiang: intense black cherry, black plum, and a touch of prune combined here with some secondary clove, toast, a hint of smoke, and herbal notes.
Tasting Notes
Deep velvety ruby color. Aromas and flavors of crushed raspberries and blueberries. Hints of fresh herbs, such as lemon grass and almonds. Medium to full body with creamy tannins. Lovely integration of ripe fruits and tannins
